California changes benefit corn ethanol

Washington—Ethanol made from corn appears to be a beneficiary of the California Air Resource Board’s proposed changes to carbon intensity calculations under the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard. In a presentation posted Thursday, CARB proposes dropping the CI score for corn-based ethanol made at a facility using natural gas for power from 68.32 to 59.86, more than 12.3%. CARB did not unveil any possible changes to the CI of corn ethanol made at facilities using other power sources.
