Moscow—Kazakhstan has developed two scenarios for the relaunch of the giant Kashagan oil field, which was shut in last October after just weeks of operation, with 2016 set as the deadline under both options, oil and gas minister Uzakbay Karabalin said Wednesday. “Under the optimistic scenario, the relaunch of production [at Kashagan] is expected in the first half of 2016, and under the second scenario...in the second half of 2016 but the figures are subject to change,” Karabalin said at a media briefing. Kashagan’s operator, the North Caspian Operating Company, is made up of stateowned KazMunaiGaz, with 16.88%; Eni, ExxonMobil, Shell and Total, with 16.81% each; China’s CNPC, with 8.33%; and Japan’s Inpex, with 7.56%.
