Lukoil, Zarubezhneft join forces on Iraqi oil projects

Moscow—Russian crude producers Lukoil and state-run Zarubezhneft are to cooperate on exploration work at Iraq’s Western Euphrates Block and are considering a joint bid to develop the Nassiriya field, Lukoil said Thursday. Lukoil is looking into further expanding its activity in Iraq after launching the West Qurna-2 field earlier this year. Lukoil signed a memorandum of understanding with Iraq’s state-owned Oil Exploration Company earlier this month on exploration work to be carried out at the 17,000 sq km Western Euphrates Block, which it intends to carry out with Moscow-based Zarubezhneft as partner.
