Cape Town—Tanzania has received bids from five oil companies, including ExxonMobil, Gazprom and Statoil, for eight exploration blocks ahead of a Thursday deadline, an official with state-owned Tanzania Petroleum Development Company said. ExxonMobil and Statoil teamed up to bid for one of seven offshore blocks alongside China’s CNOOC, Russia’s Gazprom and UAE’s Mubadala Petroleum, while UAE’s Rak Petroleum submitted a bid for the sole onshore block offered in Tanzania’s fourth licensing round, TPDC principal geologist Kelvin Komba said. The bids will be studied with results expected shortly, he said.
