Husky targets 80,000 b/d of heavy oil production

Calgary—Husky Energy aims to hike its heavy oil output in Western Canada to nearly 80,000 b/d by the end of the decade, compared with 46,200 b/d currently, a company executive said Wednesday. The Calgary-based company plans capital expenditures in heavy oil totaling C$1.3 billion ($1.1 billion) by 2016, with another C$1 billion by 2019, Ed Connolly, senior vice president for heavy oil, said at the company’s investor day in Toronto. Husky holds over 2 million net acres of land with heavy oil, he said, primarily in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
