Singapore—An oversupply in the local ethanol market has seen the Philippine Department of Energy raise the volume of domestic ethanol that oil companies are required to buy to meet their blending mandate despite the vast difference between the domestic and import price of the gasoline additive. The total volume of locally produced ethanol the 10 oil companies are required to buy—known as the local monthly allocation, or LMA—has been set at 56,200 cu m for the third quarter, up sharply from 36,900 cu m in the second quarter and 30,900 cu m in the first quarter, which has generally been the quarterly level.
