Deal would develop Venezuela offshore gas

Caracas—Venezuela’s state-owned PDVSA, Spain’s Repsol and Italy’s Eni on Wednesday signed an agreement to begin commercial development of natural gas and condensates at the Perla 3X offshore field in the Cardon IV block, one of the region’s largest gas discoveries in recent years, executives with the companies said. The deal, signed at PDVSA headquarters in Caracas by Oil and Mining Minister Rafael Ramirez and by Repsol and Eni chief executives, calls for an initial investment of $1 billion to develop what is believed to be Venezuela’s richest natural gas field with reserves estimated at 15 Tcf.
