Hong Kong tightens marine gasoil sulfur specs

Singapore—Hong Kong will start supplying marine gasoil with maximum sulfur content of 0.05% from April 1in line with Hong Kong government regulations aimed at protecting the environment. An official at the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department said Thursday Hong Kong would make local gasoil suppliers sell 0.05% sulfur marine gasoil from April 1 this year subject to the approval of the Legislative Council which has not yet been granted. The new regulation applies only to local MGO sellers and local vessels. Ships that ply international routes can will still be able to use MGO with higher sulfur content, a Hong Kong-based bunker supplier said.
