Enbridge wins legal fight for Flanagan South pipeline

Houston—Enbridge plans to begin to move heavy Canadian crude south into the US via the Flanagan South pipeline in October after a federal judge rejected environmentalists’ arguments decrying the lack of environmental impact studies on the total pipeline project. The Flanagan South pipeline will be able to carry 600,000 b/d of heavy crude from Western Canada’s oil sands into Pontiac, Illinois, and then into the storage hub of Cushing, Oklahoma, allowing greater access to the heavy crude by US Gulf Coast refineries looking for heavier barrels.
