Sydney—ExxonMobil has started production at the Papua New Guinea LNG project’s first train, well ahead of the previous October deadline. “Completion of commissioning activities and the first LNG production ensures the project remains on target for its first LNG cargo before the middle of 2014,” ExxonMobil PNG Managing Director Peter Graham said in a statement Monday. “As is normal for projects of this size, we will continue to ramp up production until we are ready to load the first cargo in the coming weeks.” PNG LNG project chief Decie Autin said earlier this month that the first cargo was likely to be sold on the spot market.
