Russia mulls tax move to raise fuel duties

Moscow—Russia’s authorities are considering increases in excise duty on high-quality motor fuel, in a move that is likely to result in a further rise in domestic fuel prices next year and translate into a further negative impact on the downstream oil sector. Russia’s government approved changes to the so-called tax maneuver for the oil sector as recently as August, with a view to make them effective from January 2015, but yet more amendments were proposed in October following a meeting by the government.
