London—A sustained recovery for Libya’s crippled oil sector still seems some way off despite some positive developments in recent weeks as hopes of an imminent restart for the major Sharara field appear overly optimistic. Sharara’s shut-in since mid-March—combined with protests and strikes across Libya’s oil sector—has seen the country’s production slide to as low as 150,000 b/d, crippling Tripoli’s economy.
