Caracas—Venezuela’s state-owned PDVSA aims to have a new 270,000 b/d naphtha separator plant in operation in the eastern Orinoco Belt by third-quarter 2015 to recover and recycle naphtha used as diluent for crude from the Ayacucho and Junin heavy oil fields. The plan was announced in a statement issued Monday by Fadi Kabboul, president of PDVSA’s engineering and construction unit, after he visited the plant site—the 3-South parcel located in the Jose Antonio Anzoategui Industrial Complex in Barcelona. The plant would recover naphtha that has been added as diluent to aid the transport of extra heavy crude from the field to processing plants. It would then be reused as diluent.
