Bangkok—A cloud of uncertainty hangs over Thailand’s upstream oil and gas sector in light of rising anti-industry sentiment that has prompted authorities to shelve the launch of the country’s 21st licensing round indefinitely. Songpope Polachan, director general at the Department of Mineral Fuels, February 26 said that he is in dark as to when the 21st round—which has already faced multiple delays—would get off the ground. “The decision on whether or not to proceed with the bidding round rests solely on the energy minister,” he told Platts, adding “we (DMF) are still waiting for a signal from him.”
