Europe loses out to China for Kumkol crude

London—Exports to the Black Sea from Kazakhstan’s Kumkol crude field may decline further as crude volumes continue to be redirected to the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline flowing east from the landlocked country, according to market sources. Crude from Kumkol has previously been destined largely for the European market, with an export route involving rail to the Georgian port of Batumi on the Black Sea coast since 2003.
