Chinese buying interest spurs VLGC market

Singapore—Japanese shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines has sold the 15-year old very large gas carrier Great Tribune to a Chinese buyer, the latest transaction in an active resale market for used LPG vessels over the past year and coming at a time of record freight rates, according to industry sources. The 49,700 dwt VLGC was sold for around $53 million to Chinese LPG and LNG trading firm Jovo Energy, the sources said. A spokesman for Mitsui OSK Lines declined to comment and Jovo Energy was not immediately available for comment.
