London—The giant Kashagan oil field in Kazakhstan’s sector of the Caspian Sea is set to start production this week. Here is a timeline of the main developments over the course of the project’s history. 1993: A consortium, named Kazakhstancaspiishelf, is established to explore in the northern Caspian. It comprises Italy’s Eni, the UK’s BG Group, Norway’s Statoil, BP, Mobil, Shell and France’s Total.
