UK’s Cairn expands into Mauritania acreage

London—UK explorer Cairn Energy has increased its presence in northwest Africa with an agreement to take a 35% stake in a Chariotoperated exploration block offshore Mauritania. Chariot will also support Cairn’s application for operatorship of the block if Cairn increases its stake to more than 50% before the end of the first phase of the license in June 2015, Cairn said.
