Cyprus gas excluded from EU loan deal

Nicosia-The Cypriot government's memo- randum with the EU Troika for a Eur10 billion ($12.8 billion) loan specifically excludes the Troika from any involvement in the island's offshore hydrocarbon resources or revenue, a government spokesman said. The deal made April 2 with the Troika-the European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund-will allow the Cyprus government to proceed with restruc- turing the island's banking system.
