Tribunal may ask Ecuador to pay Chevron

Quito, Ecuador-A United Nations Commis- sion on International Trade Law tribunal in The Hague will consider forcing Ecuador to compensate Chevron for damages the US oil major could suffer tied to enforcement of a domestic ruling. The tribunal said, in a ruling distributed on February 8 by Chevron, that Ecuador, the respondent, must "show cause to this tribu- nal why the respondent should not now com- pensate" Chevron.
