Pemex hits first shale from Mexico’s Eagle Ford

Mexico City —Mexico has produced shale oil for the first time, from the Eagle Ford formation just south of its border with Texas, state oil and gas monopoly Pemex said. Chucla 1, in the Burgos Basin, produced 24 b/d of crude and condensates as well as 1,900 Mcf/d of natural gas, the company said in a filing to the Mexico Stock Exchange April 26. “Chucla 1 proves that the Eagle Ford geological formation reaches into Mexico,” said Carlos Morales, head of E&P at Pemex, in a conference call with analysts.
