Singapore—China’s apparent oil demand slipped to a nine-month low of 9.53 million b/d in May, according to Platts estimates Monday, based on recently released government data. The May number represented the lowest level since August 2012, when apparent demand averaged 8.95 million b/d, and was also down 1.3% from 9.66 million b/d in April this year. However, on a year on year basis China’s apparent oil demand in May rose 2% to 40.31 million mt.
