New York—NYMEX crude futures broke out of a recent trading range and settled higher January 10, garnering support from improved Chinese export data and renewed optimism in the eurozone after successful debt auctions in Spain and Italy. But the session was muted somewhat following the release of lackluster US employment data, which showed weekly initial jobless claims climbed to 371,000, up from 367,000 a week ago.
