China’s April fuel oil imports rise 8.2% on year

Singapore—China’s fuel oil imports in April rose 8.2% year on year to 2.23 million mt, buoyed by higher Russian and South Korean volumes, according to figures released May 22 by the General Customs Administration. Imports of fuel oil – classified as No. 5-7 fuel oil by customs – were also 15.2% higher in April than in March. Imported fuel oil is used mainly by “teapot” refineries, concentrated in Shandong, which mostly have capacities of around 104 million mt/year, according to Beijing-based information provider JYD Commodities Hub.
