Shell returns to Alaska’s Chukchi Sea for survey work

Washington—Although Shell has delayed its offshore Alaska drilling plans until at least 2014, the company will return to the Chukchi Sea this summer to do routine maintenance on the well it began last year, and to survey for future pipeline routes. Shell’s plans were outlined May 13 in a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration document approving Shell’s activities, after analyzing the effect the work will have on whales, seals and other area wildlife.
