Japan LNG demand sets new high

Tokyo—Japan’s LNG demand continued to race ahead in fiscal 2012-13 (April-March) with consumption by the power sector reaching a fresh record high of 55.79 million mt amid an ongoing absence of nuclear power generation capacity. Japan’s 10 major power utilities’ LNG demand in 2012-13 was 5% higher than the previous record high of 52.89 million mt set in the last fiscal year, according to data released April 12 by the Federation of Electric Power Companies.
