France’s Total making bolder exploration choices

Paris—France’s Total has adopted a bolder exploration strategy for 2013—nearly doubling its budget compared with its 2009 spending—and is venturing into higher risk areas such as blocks deep offshore. These high-potential, high-risk plays are expected to account for a third of the 3 million b/d of oil equivalent of production the French major is targeting by 2017.
