London-Faced with slowly declining production, the Dutch oil and gas sector needs increased merger and acquisition activity in order to rein- vigorate itself, the CEO of the country's state- owned EBN, Jan Dirk Bokhoven, believes. The upstream sector in the Netherlands is dominated by natural gas output, thanks in no small part to the major Groningen field. But the country's total gas production has dropped from around 70 billion cubic meters in 2010 to just 63.9 Bcm last year, according to BP's most recent statistical review of world energy.
