US proved oil reserves hit 29 billion barrels

Washington—Proved reserves of crude oil and lease condensate in the US rose 3.8 billion barrels, or 15% in 2011 from 2010, to end the year at 29 billion barrels—the largest volume increase since 1977, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday. Proved reserves of wet gas, which includes natural gas plus natural gas plant liquids, rose by 31.2 Tcf in 2011 to a new record high of 348.8 Tcf, although the year on year volume increase was lower than the one recorded in 2010, the EIA said.
