Valero makes more crude slate changes

New York—Big US refiner Valero Energy continues to tweak its crude slate to take advantage of growing domestic production. After replacing all foreign light oil imports with domestic crude at its Gulf Coast and Memphis, Tennessee, plants, it has turned its sights on Canada. The company’s Quebec City plant “will be on all North American crude oil...within a year or so,” CEO Bill Klesse said April 30 during an earnings conference call. The plant relies now on mostly light sweet foreign barrels from areas such as the North Sea and West Africa.
