Russia’s Rosneft sees early TNK-BP deal closing

Moscow—Russia’s state-run Rosneft expects to complete the $56 billion acquisition of TNK-BP early in the second quarter, ahead of a previous target to close the deal by mid- 2013, and now estimates the synergy effects from the deal at some $10 billion—more than double previous estimates. A source familiar with the matter told Platts March 7 that Rosneft is aiming to conclude the acquisition by early April. With the giant acquisition ahead of schedule, Rosneft has also announced the closure of a number of other deals, including a long-term contract on crude supplies with Glencore and Vitol and the purchase of a 30% stake in 20 blocks in the Gulf of Mexico from ExxonMobil.
