Norway to reject EU offshore oil, gas rules

Brussels—Norway will not fall into line with EU legislation to tighten offshore oil and gas rules, Norwegian energy minister Ola Borten Moe told Platts on the sidelines of an energy conference in Brussels. The legislation “is not part of the European Economic Area agreement” and did not affect the Norwegian continental shelf, the minister said. The EEA brings together the 27 EU member states and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway in a single market which covers areas such as the free movement of goods, services, persons and capital. It also covers areas including research and development, education, social policy, the environment, consumer protection, tourism and culture.
