Shell-led consortium sets Canada LNG plan

Vancouver—A Shell-led consortium has made the boldest move yet to export LNG from Canada, announcing plans May 15 to initially build two trains to process 12 million mt/year on the British Columbia coast and setting a start-up date toward the end of this decade. Shell has been working on a feasibility study over the past two years, including development of stranded shale gas resources in British Columbia. At the same time the company has been recruiting Korea Gas Corporation, Mitsubishi and PetroChina to buy a total 20% equity stake and as potential off-take buyers.
