Indian oil ministry releases draft policy on shale gas

Mumbai—India’s oil ministry has proposed developing the country’s shale gas blocks with royalties and production-linked payments, as it has done for its coalbed methane reserves, rather than the cost recovery model it uses for conventional oil and gas under its New Exploration Licensing Policy, according to a ministry draft policy circulated July 31. The ministry has invited comments on the draft through the end of August, with no date given for the final policy to be issued.
