Shell signs first shale gas contract in China

Singapore—Shell March 20 signed a produc-tion sharing contract with state-owned ChinaNational Petroleum Corporation for the Fush-un-Yongchuan shale gas block in the centralSichuan province, becoming the first foreigncompany to sign a shale gas PSC in China.The PSC is subject to approval by the Chi-nese government, the company said, addingthat it will apply its technology and operation-al expertise to develop and produce gas fromthe block, which spans 3,500 sq km (1,351sq miles) and is located west of Chongqingcity in the Sichuan Basin.
