Cape Town—Norway’s Statoil said June 6 it had lost a legal fight in a Nigerian court— which supported a claim from a former consultant that it share profits from the 250,000 b/d deepwater Agbami oil field—but vowed to fight on with an appeal. Statoil said the Nigerian Court of Appeal had upheld a previous verdict from the Federal High Court of Lagos. The company said it would not comment on Nigerian media reports that the judge ordered Statoil to pay the claimant $25 million. “His claim is for 1.5% of the profits. We don’t want to comment on any actual figures,” Statoil spokesman Bard Glad Pedersen said.
