Oil attention turns to north, south Africa

Cape Town—Much of the interest in Africa’s oil and gas riches has been centered in recent years on its western and eastern coasts. But now, attention is turning to its northern and southern tips, with Morocco in the north and South Africa in the south attracting plenty of new players. After modest interest for much of the past decade, oil companies are stepping up exploration in Morocco, encouraged by its stability relative to other parts of North Africa and attractive fiscal regime.
