US gas’ 146-Bcf storage draw a ‘bullish shock’

Knoxville, Tennessee—A much bigger-thanexpected withdrawal of 146 Bcf left US gas storage inventories at 2.083 Tcf for the week ending March 1, the Energy Information Administration said March 7. Most analysts had predicted a withdrawal between 130 Bcf and 134 Bcf. A year earlier, EIA reported a 92-Bcf draw, while the five-year average is 107 Bcf. As a result, the 307-Bcf deficit to the year-ago level rose to 361 Bcf, while the 308-Bcf surplus to the five-year average of 1.814 Tcf fell to 269 Bcf.
