ZeaChem eyes cellulosic ethanol by year end

Washington—Biorefiner ZeaChem said it expects to start making cellulosic ethanol from wood and wheat straw at its Boardman, Oregon, demonstration plant by the end of the year. The company said on October 29 that it has completed construction of the facility, which is designed to have an annual capacity of 250,000 gallons. The plant was already converting wood into sugars. The latest milestone refers to the second process of converting sugars into fuel. ZeaChem said the project remains within budget.
