Vietnam bans methanol as gasoline octane enhancer

Singapore-Vietnam has banned the use of methanol as an octane booster blendstock with immediate effect, in view of widespread fuel adulteration practices in the domestic market, industry sources said this week. The ban applies to both gasoline already in tanks and fresh import arrivals, they added. However, the country still allows an etha- nol blend of up to 5% in the domestic market under its biofuel mandate, a source close to the matter said earlier this week.
