EPA reaches settlementsover fraudulent RIN buys

Washington—The US Environmental ProtectionAgency April 20 said it has reached settlementswith 30 companies that purchased fraudulentcredits for the use of renewable fuels.The companies agreed to the settle-ments even though they purchased theRenewable Identification Numbers, or RINs,in good faith from other companies that theEPA believes fraudulently issued the cred-its without actually producing quantities ofrenewable fuels.
