Marathon Oil expands its African portfolio

Cape Town—Marathon Oil has broadened its African portfolio by signing a $35 million farm-in deal for two Kenyan oil blocks with Vancouver-based Africa Oil, the Canadian oil company said July 23. Houston-based Marathon will take a 50% stake in block 9 and 15% in block 12A, Africa Oil said. The US company will also pay Africa Oil $43.5 million as exploration costs over the next three years, it added.
