London—Italy’s Eni has made a “significant” oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert holding up to 250 million barrels of light crude, the company said May 24. The Emry Deep 1X well in the Meleiha concession found over 250 feet of net pay in multiple good-quality sandstones after drilling to a total depth of 3,628 meters, Eni said. The discovery, which is some 290 km south west of Alexandria, flowed at 3,500 b/d of 41 API crude and 1,000 Mcf/day of associated gas in production tests.
