Gazprom, Novatek look at Yamal projects

Moscow-Russian natural gas giant Gazprom and independent gas producer Novatek, the operator of a planned LNG project on the Yamal Peninsula in northern Russia, are considering joint projects in the region to boost LNG produc- tion capacity and develop new gas fields. Cooperation between the two in Yamal would represent closer relations between Gazprom and Novatek, which to date have not worked together on joint projects. Novatek did, however, say in July 2010 it would form a joint venture with Gazprom's oil arm, Gazprom Neft, to develop oil and gas in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous region, though no venture ever emerged. Gazprom also has a 10% stake in Novatek.
