Sydney—The Australian upstream oil and gasindustry March 6 slammed a “cynical, sophis-ticated, orchestrated attack” on the domesticresources sector by the “Big Green” movement.The comments by the Australian PetroleumProduction & Exploration Association followed areport in local newspaper The Australian sayingthat a coalition of environmental activists ledby Greenpeace had developed a secret plan towreck Australia’s coal export industry by disrupt-ing and delaying key projects and infrastructure.The newspaper said the group’s strategyincluded exploiting the “Lock The Gate” lobbymovement against Australia’s burgeoningcoalseam gas industry to put pressure on gov-ernments to block development.
