London—The potential closure of the 220,000 b/d Coryton refinery along the Thames Estuary in the UK would likely prompt an increase in UK road fuel imports, sources said this week, with diesel imports expected to rise by about 200,000 mt a month and gasoline imports by 80,000-100,000 mt/month. Financial services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is responsible for administering the UK assets of the refinery’s former owner, Petroplus, said May 28 it had so far failed to find a solution that would keep the refinery operating (ON 5/29).
