Chubu Electric inks deal for 12 million mt Qatari LNG

Tokyo—Japan’s Chubu Electric has signed a long-term contract with Qatargas to buy 12 million mt of LNG over 15 years from 2013. Under the contract, Chubu Electric will buy 1 million mt/year of Qatari LNG for the first five years from April 2013, and 700,000 mt/year in the remaining 10 years to March 2028, company officials said October 12. Chubu Electric said the LNG supply for this contract will be sourced from the Qatar-gas 3 project, adding that the volumes will contribute towards stabilizing its supplies.
