BP agrees to lease acreage in Utica Shale play in Ohio

Houston—BP announced March 27 it hassigned an agreement to lease about 84,000acres in the Ohio portion of the Utica Shale,as growing interest in the burgeoning playextends farther north.BP’s agreement is with the AssociatedLandowners of the Ohio Valley, a nonprofitorganization representing the area mineralowners, for land in Trumbull County on theeastern edge of the state. Drilling has thusfar concentrated on counties farther south,drilling permit and rig data shows.
