Houston—Large independent ChesapeakeEnergy plans to take its oilfield service anddrilling unit public with an offering worth $862million that will create Chesapeake OilfieldServices as a separate investment option withthe fourth-largest active rig fleet in the US oil-field services sector.But COS would still continue to performmost of its work for Chesapeake rather thanchallenge large land drilling rivals such asNabors Industries, Patterson UTI-Energy andHelmerich & Payne, according to the compa-ny’s filing April 16 with the US Securities andExchange Commission.
