London—Germany’s potential recoverableshale gas reserves using currently availabletechnology could be as high as 2.3 trillioncubic meters, according to a Federal Institutefor Geosciences and Natural Resources studyreleased June 25, making it the world’s 20thlargest shale gas resource holder.The largest shale gas potential lies in theNorth German Basin, mostly trapped in lowercarboniferous formations, while smaller volumesare assumed in the Upper Rhine Valley, accord-ing to the advisory agency, which is part of thefederal Economics and Technology Ministry.
